Imagine my delight as we pulled into the campground at Letchworth State Park to see the Locally Grown Fresh Produce signs at the camp store!
We so rarely go into the store at a campground as well, let’s just say that there is not much sold there that I find appealing. It was a wonderful surprise when we walked back to the store after setting up our campsite to find a small but vibrant variety of recently harvested locally grown fresh produce.
Perhaps this will be the norm now that it is summertime—local farmers harvesting from their small farms to share the abundance with campers staying in nearby parks. I surely hope so!
I purchased 2 boxes of raspberries—for a cobbler, of course—a box of cherries, and one beefsteak tomato. And, although I have made a zillion cobblers over the years, this was my first-ever raspberry cobbler! These divinely flavorful and deliciously tart raspberries were smaller than the California-grown I typically buy at the grocery store, creating a scrumptious cobbler! Yum!
