Moab — Another Desert Wonder!

Moab has long been a special place for John and me. We went to Moab every year to mountain bike, for 14 years in a row, when we lived in NorCal. We would depart from Grass Valley at 3 AM, driving through the night until we reached Salt Lake City in the mid-afternoon. Over the next week, we’d ride and hike in the Wasatch Mountains before making our way to Moab. Our honeymoon in 1998 included some hard rides in Moab…

1995 or ’96, mountain biking in Moab. I would wear a Camelbak to carry 4 liters of water in addition to the spare water bottle of electrolyte drink on my frame. (Apparently my pack, helmet, and gloves are off to the side…)
Sigh. Today’s ride, 30 years later…At least we are still riding, albeit on less technical terrain!

It has been so very hot here, in the high 90s every afternoon which motivates us to get out early in the morning for our hike or ride.

Each afternoon we have been sitting at the Moab Coffee Roaster to wifi while savoring a cold drink (or an ice cream!).

There have been fabulous stormy skies each afternoon, with abundant virga but little actual rainfall.

Last evening however at Dead Horse Point, we finally were able to enjoy a desert rainstorm, complete with the rich petrichor wafting in the breeze while the already marvelously rich, red soil became more intensely colored. How lovely it all is!

Tomorrow morning we will shop once more at another of my fave Co-ops, Moonflower Co-op before driving away from this special place as we head to Colorado. Until we return, Moab will hold a special place in my heart.
